Calls for local governments and housing to make it easier for service providers to place individuals experiencing homelessness into privately owned hotels and motels for more than 30 days. This is to provide more stability for individuals experiencing such dilemmas.
AB 3057
Helps jumpstart the process of local governments’ permitting and facilitating the construction of Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADU) to create affordable living spaces throughout the state.
State Policies:
SB 567
The California Homelessness Prevention Act
Aims to prevent landlords from evicting tenants, particularly low-income renters for violation of paying rent or violation a lease term. Policy aims to address loopholes that have been exploited by landlords.
Home key Program
For state, regional, and local public entities to develop a broad range of housing types, including but not limited to hotels, motels, hostels, single-family homes and multifamily apartments, adult residential facilities, manufactured housing, and to convert
commercial properties and other existing buildings to permanent or interim housing for the target population.
Federal Policies:
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Prohibits discrimination based on disability in employment. State and local government are to provide public accommodations in commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications.
Fair Housing Act
Prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, and national origin. Covers housing that receives Federal financial assistance and State and local housing. It is unlawful to discriminate against a buyer or renter
because of their disability.
